Hello Jennie Breene

Hi Jennie and all you Beenleigh Bloggers..

Lets talk about social isolation..

What comprises years of neglect from poor representation in local government over so many years has left many residential areas of Beenleigh with a shortage of footpaths. Even in long-term established parts of Beenleigh and surrounds - people have been waiting 20 years or more for a footpath. Many people with mobility problems are virtual prisoners in their own homes because they can't manage to walk down the street and say g'day to a neighbour now and again. Studies confirm social isolation is the most significant factor contributing to the onset of depression, particularly for people with disabilities and the frail aged.

Community Renewal has funded some work on footpaths but it is only in highly visible, local routes.
As we are experiencing an unprecedented growth, the lack of footpaths also causes safety issues. People pushing prams and people in motorized wheel chairs must currently use the roads, which are now becoming heavy with traffic.

Come on Jennie Breene, lobby for more footpaths in Division 12, please...
